NP - System of A Down - Sat Statue
For some reason there was no lunch at home today, and everyone went back to sleep before lunchtime. So I had to go out and buy some horrible junk food. But I noticed my deo was running low, so I decided to take a long-cut and go to Al-Fair MQ and buy some, and pick up some milk and bread while there. And what do I see there but this:
(that pic was taken at home, not at the shop, for the record)
Basically its a non-plastic bag, which you can use again and again for your shopping and anything else.
Interesting move from ESO, and one that I like very much. Lets hope it catches on. Check out the back, it seems someone is a System Of A Down fan :p
Bring Your Own Bag. So guys, go out and buy your ESO bags, say no to plastic. Why? Well, read this, from http://www.cleanup.com.au/
- Plastic is a recyclable resource.
- Plastic bags are manufactured from non-renewable resources - oil and gas.
- Just 8.7 checkout bags contain enough embodied petroleum energy to drive a car 1 km (2)
- If plastic is not recycled, this embodied energy is lost from the resource chain.
Anyway, Im not sure where you can get these bags, apart from Al-Fair MQ. But I'm sure theyre around. Heres the website of the Environmental Society of Oman, in english and arabic

P.S. the food, as expected, was terrible. I swear someone should open a quality healthfood place here. Oh, if there already is one, please let me know.

well thats just great isnt it, stupid sidebar content ruining everything as usual. I swear, I wish I could figure this damn thing out. ARGH.
1. Why don't you post the pics using Blogger's own option and that way it would resize them to fit within the text area. Elswise you can upload them to a flickr account and link them from there resized?
2. We've been selling these reusable bags since October last year. They've been very successful and we've sold hundreds of them, first at fairs and to friends and family, and now through Al Fair and Turtles books. Al Fair sells them at MQ and Sarooj (don't know if they have them at Al Khuwair) and Turtles sells them at their Intercont shop. Naseej Oman is now sponsoring them and making them for free for ESO.
3. BYOB has been around for donkey years. It used to be used in colleges as an acronym for bring your own booze. i.e. if you go to a BYOB party then there will be no drinks unless you bring some with you. Now it's being used more and more for environmentally friendly shopping Bring Your Own Bag.
4. System of a Down's song, which I love, is Bring Your Own Bombs :)
Hey I was there today and I didn't see one of those bags, I would've loved to have one.
Well Muscati, you must excuse my ignorance on such matters, I've been out of the country since last October! its good to hear that they're selling well though, its really the first time I've seen em, and it was a pretty good suprise.
That system of a down song is pretty quality too, the new album is way better than any of the older stuff...but I guess thats a different post entirely!
I'll explore bloggers own option. Im a bit of an ignoramus when it comes to technical stuff, and I havent explored the blogger options. Flickr...well I've tried Flickr, lets just say I wasnt so successful.
I noticed it as well when I was there this morning but was in a hurry so couldnt really bother with it. Maybe next time.
I wanted to ask where I can find these bags, & good you already mentioned it!
